A man was arrested and charged after authorities allege he fatally shot his parents and sister inside an Oklahoma home.

On Tuesday, May 14, Jacob Mayhugh, 22, was taken into custody by members of the U.S. Marshals Service and Oklahoma City Police Department after a warrant was issued for his arrest on three counts of first-degree murder, the Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation said in a statement.

According to the statement, officers responded to a home in Chickasha, Okla., where two women and a man were found dead of gunshot wounds around 11:30 a.m. on Saturday, May 11. Jacob was initially considered a person of interest before being deemed a suspect.

The victims have since been identified as Jacob’s parents, James and Patty Mayhugh, along with his sister, Shayla Mayhugh, according to a probable cause affidavit obtained by local stations KOCO-TV, KFOR, KOKH-TV.

The affidavit states that the day before the shooting Jacob left his girlfriend’s home, telling her he was going to eat pizza at his parents’ house, KOCO-TV reports. Phone records show Patty texted Jacob that dinner was ready shortly after, according to the affidavit.

Additionally, officers found a rifle with a serial number that matched one Jacob bought on April 25 and spent shell casings at the scene, the affidavit alleges, per KOCO-TV.

According to KFOR, the affidavit alleges Jacob confessed to the murder while being questioned by investigators on May 14. It’s unclear if he has entered a plea or retained an attorney to speak on his behalf.

A local resident told KOCO-TV the victims were well known in the community.

“Everybody knows who they are,” Jeni Richardson told the outlet. “They were really engrained [sic] into the community, as far as I know, for forever. They were some of the sweetest people.”
