In February 2024, when Maya Henry, the former fiancée of late singer Liam Payne, trailed her debut novel as ‘fiction inspired by true events’, speculation inevitably followed that the book was based on the pair’s tumultuous three-year relationship.

Henry’s book, Looking Forward, which chronicles the stormy romance between ‘Oliver Smith’, a handsome British singer who rose to fame with a boyband called 5Forward, and a young American model, ‘Mallory Hunt’, includes scenes in which the male protagonist threatens to hurl himself from a balcony while on drugs, chases his girlfriend with an axe and gives her an ultimatum to have an abortion.
