There is no evidence that U.S. broadcaster ABC decided not to renew the contracts of Joy Behar and Whoopi Goldberg, two of the six hosts of “The View” talk show, contrary to a headline shared in social media posts.
A network spokesperson also said in an email that the claim is “not true.”
“Breaking: Whoopi Goldberg and Joy Behar’s ‘The View’ Contracts Not Renewed for 2024: ‘We’re Clearing Out Toxic Elements from the Show,” reads, opens new tab the caption of posts sharing a meme with the same text superimposed on photos of Behar, opens new tab and Goldberg.
However, no credible news outlets have reported on such an announcement from ABC.
The narrative originated in a July 17 article, opens new tab published by the website Bigoakbay, which did not provide a source for the information. In the past , the site has also shared baseless quotes attributed to members of the Indiana Fever women’s basketball team.
Reuters previously addressed narratives that ABC had cancelled “The View.”
