David Letterman Champions Taylor Swift & Travis Kelce Romance Amid Backlash From NFL Fans: “This Is Such A Lovely Thing. Shut Up!”
David Letterman is championing the media coverage that the romance between Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce generates.
In a post shared on social media, Letterman talked about the backlash from NFL fans upset at the attention Swift has been getting while attending the Kansas City Chiefs games to support Kelce.
Here’s Taylor Swift, who is a glowing bright light of goodness in the world, and she starts dating Kelsey Grammer,” Letterman said, confusing Kelce’s name with the Frasier actor.
He continued, “The [Kelce] people say, ‘Oh, no, no, no, don’t bother us. We’re all caught up in football. We don’t want Taylor and football.’ And the Taylor Swift people, the Swifties are saying, ‘Oh, we don’t want a footballer in here with [Kelce].’”
Letterman was later corrected by a person off-camera as he repeatedly continued to say Kelsey Grammer instead of Travis Kelce.
“And I say to both camps, ‘This is such a lovely thing. Shut up!” he continued. “It’s good for the footballers. It’s good for Taylor Swift and it’s something positive and happy for the world. And also politically, Taylor Swift is a huge force, and I think just wants to see people do the right thing. So God bless Taylor Swift and [Kelce].”
Swift previously addressed the media coverage she’s been getting since beginning to attend the Chiefs games in support of Kelce.
“There’s a camera, like, a half-mile away, and you don’t know where it is, and you have no idea when the-camera is putting you in the broadcast, so I don’t know if I’m being shown 17 times or once,” she told Time magazine in an interview after she was named 2023 Person of the Year. “I’m just there to support Travis. I have no awareness of if I’m being shown too much and pissing off a few dads, Brads and Chads.”
Just this past weekend, Swift had another viral moment when the CBS broadcast cut to her while promoting the Grammys the network is set to air next weekend. The “Anti-Hero” singer seemed to mouth, “Go away, please!” as she seemingly noticed the attention was on her during the live telecast.
